Fire baskets or log-burning grates are able to burn either wood or solid fuel (some can even burn gas) Fire baskets provide the focal point to any room with access to a chimney - they can even be used as decoration for homes without a chimney. There are various fire basket designs available including both traditional and modern. There is nothing to beat the real, warm glow that only a real fire can provide. Most homes still boast a traditional open fireplace and so a real fire is an option for most homeowners.
To install a fire basket (or log-burning grate) in a fireplace remove the old fireback and rubble infill. Choose a grate that will leave a gap minimum 50mm. A hearth must be installed or you can use the existing one. The hearth should extend at least 300mm in front of the grate and 150mm on each side of the fire opening. Note that the fire baskets with cast-iron firebacks radiate more heat into the room.
BHL supply a wide range of cast-iron fire baskets at low online prices - and dont forget the essential extras available in our fireside accessories range.
