Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Smoke Alarms are safety devices designed to prevent serious injury or even death. Carbon Monoxide (CO) is odourless, colourless and tasteless but is a highly toxic gas. Carbon Monoxide is a product of combustion. Faulty or badly installed heating appliances (such as gas fires, water heaters and boilers) are a major source of CO. Each year, at home an abroad there are casualties as a result of CO poisoning. To help prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning gas appliances need to be inspected and serviced annually. The installation of a Carbon Monoxide alarm or detector alerts the homeowner and can give valuable warning of a CO leak. Smoke alarms detect smoke within a building and alert the residents with a loud audiblel alarm and in some instances flashing light.
There are different types of CO detectors and smoke alarms available. Mains Powered alarms and detectors are wired into the mains system and connect with other alarms throughout the property. Battery Powered Alarms are a flexible option due to being portable. BHL also supply small Carbon Monoxide detectors that are fixed to the side of a heating appliance. These are credit card sized and are small enough to be taken on holiday in a suitcase.
