Energy-saving measures make green sense
Homeowners have been reminded that upgrading an old boiler can help save the planet as well as cutting heating costs.
Martin Parkinson, a volunteer at the Centre for Alternative Technology at Machynlleth, told the Western Mail that as more emphasis is placed on climate change, more people should consider adopting environmentally-friendly energy products such as newer and greener boilers.
"Upgrading to a modern condensing boiler can save almost one-third of your gas or oil bill," the newspaper stated.
According to the publication, an estimated 30 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK comes from home energy use and this can be reduced significantly by fitting a new boiler.
Consumers have also been advised that making sure a new boiler has good heating controls with an effective timer and room thermostat can help.
"These energy-saving measures don't just make green sense. By reducing condensation and draughts they make a home more comfortable and healthy," the Western Mail concluded.
At a recent eco-exhibition in Surrey, residents were shown that modernising their boiler and investing in proper insulation can save as much carbon as downsizing their car.
