Learn more about eco-friendly heat pumps

Heat pumps, such as those manufactured by Grundfos, are often "misunderstood" or not understood at all, according to experts.

Homeowners are apparently often not aware that there may be a better heating and cooling option than a furnace or air conditioning system.

"Although its name is misleading, a heat pump is an efficient method of heating a home during the cold winter months and also cooling it during the blistering summer months," sheet metal firm manager Paul Greco told the King Sentinel.

The Canadian publication explained that a heat pump works by "moving heat" in order to keep indoor environments comfortable, pointing out that even cold air contains heat.

During the winter, heat is gathered from outside and used to warm the air inside, while in the summer a heat pump operates like a standard electric air conditioner by collecting heat from the air inside a house and expelling it outside.

"Heat pumps are capable of providing years of worry-free heating and cooling and significant savings on electric bills," Paul Greco noted.

Trianco recently confirmed that air source heat pumps are growing in popularity, while a wide range of new models and accessories from Dimplex created the widest heat pump selection in the UK.
