Higher heating costs draining Brits dry
Rising water and heating bills are contributing to Brits having less disposable income, it has been claimed.

Figures released by price comparison site uSwitch showed that the costs of water and heat have gone up by 33 per cent and 46 per cent respectively over the last ten years.

Combined with higher rent and taxes, this has apparently squeezed incomes to such an extent that disposable funds are at their lowest level for more than a decade.

"Cool Britannia is now Cost-a-lot Britannia," commented Mike Naylor, personal finance expert at uSwitch.com.

"Our pay cheques may be getting fatter, but the chunk that we have to hand over to pay taxes, bills and other living costs is growing even faster," he continued.

Households that want to cut utility bills have been advised to look at alternative heating solutions such as a more energy efficient boiler or a ground source heat pump, both of which have been shown to bring costs down.

Trianco is one manufacturer of class-B boilers to point out that the initial money paid for one of its Contractor models would be returned to the buyer within two years via reduced heating bills.
