Council opposes toilet demolition

Plans to demolish a public toilet block in the Norfolk town of Holt and replace it with semi-detached houses have been met with opposition, it has emerged.

After North Norfolk District Council announced its intention to knock down the conveniences, the town council saw a number of concerns raised by residents who were worried what alternatives could be used by people in the area.

According to news website EDP24, a campaign to save the loos has been launched and the district council has been told exactly what the local leadership thinks.

"The district council should hold its head in shame at the way it has treated our town. We at local level know this service is much needed," said Brian Payne, chairman of the town council.

In related news, last week saw two public toilets installed near the top of Mont Blanc in the French Alps.
