Self-flushing toilet for Flushing

The borough of Flushing, New York, will be party to much more hands-free flushing following the installation of a new public toilet in September.

According to the New York Daily Times, the outdoor unit will feature a self-flushing toilet, a sink, soap dispenser and a unique cleaning system.

In total 20 models are to be installed around the city, including Flushing's toilet - which will be located in Lippman Plaza.

"I heard that Flushing is the busiest area in the country next to Times Square, so I think it is necessary," Fresh Meadows resident Kevin Goodspeed told the newspaper.

The heated glass and stainless steel toilet facility features an automatic cleaning mechanism which will rinse and dry the floor and disinfect the sink and toilet after each use.

The facility will be open for use daily from 8:00 to 20:00 local time.
