'More boiler engineers needed' for Warm Front scheme
In order to meet demand for the government's Warm Front grants, more qualified boiler installers need to be hired, one sector commentator has asserted.
The Warm Front scheme is designed to help eligible households make their properties more energy efficient by improving insulation and central heating systems.
However, there is currently a waiting list for such work to be completed, which may be cut down by training more gas installers.
Blane Judd, the chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), said registered heating professionals with the institute could be quickly mobilised in order to tackle this backlog.
"The recent cold weather will have significantly increased the length of time people will have to wait for installation and it is clearly unacceptable for those most vulnerable households to be without heating for so long," he added.
However, using CIPHE professionals could see the time for households to benefit from the scheme being reduced, Mr Judd stated.
Britons who do not qualify for the Warm Front scheme may find they can still get money off central heating appliances under the government's new boiler scrappage scheme.

Unlike a first home, when people move into their second property they are likely to spend longer there, which could lead them to make more of an investment in improvements.
