Could condensing boiler play role in retrofitting?
The government is already taking action to improve the energy efficiency of existing housing stock, one sector commentator has asserted - and the new boiler scrappage scheme may be seen as part of this agenda.
A spokesperson for the Communities and Local Government, said new properties are now more than 40 per cent more energy efficient than they were in 2002 - which may mean they boost greener
central heating systems or even renewable energy technology.
"The government is already taking action in terms of retrofitting existing buildings, improving future design standards and cutting red tape in the planning system for the installation of green energy solution," he added.
It could be said the government's recently unveiled boiler scrappage scheme could also be seen as part of parliament's commitment to retrofitting properties.
Under the programme, consumers who currently have an old, G-rated boiler can apply to receive £400 off the cost of a new condensing boiler.
This could see households reducing both their carbon emissions and their energy bills.
