Could landlords take advantage of boiler scrappage?
The government's new boiler scrappage scheme sees households still using an older G-rated boiler able to apply for money off the cost of upgrading to a condensing boiler.
However, it is not only homeowners who are eligible for the scheme, but tenants living in rented property as well, which may mean it is something landlords wish to consider.
Indeed, property professionals still renting out homes with an older boiler in them may find by installing new condensing boilers they can promise potential tenants the benefits of reduced gas bills and a lower carbon footprint.
Furthermore, a newer boiler may be safer than an older type.
Landlords have a legal obligation to have all the gas appliances in their rented properties - including boilers,
gas fires and cookers - checked by a member of the Gas Safe Register at least once a year.
The resulting gas safety certificate should then be made available to the tenants.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, landlord Graham Barnes, 49, from Bicester Road in Kidlington, has been prosecuted after it was discovered he had been failing to take such action and ensure his gas appliances were working safely.
