Solar panels 'a realistic proposition'
Solar panels have become an increasingly realistic option for both homeowners and businesses which wish to do their bit to become more energy efficient, it has been said.
The government has recently announced further details of its plans to introduce feed-in tariffs for small scale low carbon electricity, ahead of an April 2010 introduction.
From this date communities and households who install solar panels and wind turbines will be able to claim payments for the electricity the devices produce.
In addition to a £140 saving on average annual household bills, it is estimated people who use solar panels to power their homes could also receive up to £900.
Commenting on the news, Andrew Moore, managing director of British Eco Energy, said: "This is the first time solar panels have become a realistic proposition not just for homeowners, but for businesses as well."
He added this is because the ability to make a return on investment was now there for businesses.
Mr Moore concluded that the announcement took renewable energy technology from being something only the very green or very wealthy were likely to invest in and made it more wide-reaching.
