Solar panels could earn homeowners £900
In addition to the money they can save on energy bills, homeowners who invest in solar panels could find they are able to earn £900, it has been revealed.
From April, Britons who make use of solar panels will be able to claim payments for the low carbon energy the technology produces.
This is on top of the £140 savings solar energy could make on household utility bills.
Under the government scheme, it is hoped more local power will be generated by renewable energy technology, such as household solar panels and wind turbines.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said: "The guarantee of getting an income on top of saving on energy bills will be an incentive to householders and communities wanting to make the move to low carbon living."
Households will be paid for the electricity they generate from April, even if they use it for themselves.
They will then receive additional payments for any excess energy they direct to the National Grid.
Businesses may also wish to consider solar panels, after the Environment Agency reported from next year they would be charged by the tonne for the carbon they produce.
