Energy efficiency 'key for consumers'
When buying household appliances, energy efficiency is the top priority for consumers, it has been revealed - which could see people splashing out on making their
central heating greener.
A survey from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has revealed that in the US, 57 per cent of homeowners listed energy efficiency as one of their top considerations when buying new household appliances, Electronics Talk reports.
The UK may be following in these footsteps, particularly after the government's recent announcement of a boiler scrappage scheme which has been designed to help Britons make their
central heating systems more efficient.
Simin Zhou, vice-president and general manager of UL's Appliances, HVAC/R and Components business unit, said: "It's understandable that consumers are focused on cost and energy savings when purchasing home appliances in today's struggling economy."
Under the boiler scrappage scheme, consumers can apply for a voucher valued at £400 to put towards a condensing boiler, biomass boiler or ground source heat pump, if they currently have a G-rated boiler.
