When will boiler scrappage scheme be introduced?
Nearly a month after chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling announced in the pre-Budget report details of a new boiler scrappage scheme, it is still unclear when the incentive will be introduced, it has been claimed.
Charlie Mullins, managing director of Pimlico Plumbers, told the Daily Express that the scheme - which will see homeowners who currently have a G-rated gas boiler offered £400 towards the cost of a more energy efficient upgrade -is unlikely to benefit households before the general election.
He added this may encourage Britons to put up with their old, inefficient boilers, rather than spending on a new one.
However, even without the cash handout, consumers could find investing in a condensing boiler does not have to be expensive as it could pay for itself through cheaper fuel bills.
Indeed, the Energy Saving Trust claims that a condensing boiler can reduce annual heating bills by some £235.
Mr Darling stated that he hoped the boiler scrappage scheme will also help to reduce the UK's domestic carbon footprint.
