Why men can't bleed radiators
Simple household tasks such as bleeding radiators in order to boost the efficiency of central heating systems are increasingly proving to be a mystery for many UK males, it has been revealed.
Recent research by Screwfix found that half of all men in their 20s would call in professional help to come and bleed their radiators for them, compared to 17 per cent of older men.
This is despite the fact bleeding radiators is one of the quickest and most cost-effective ways of increasing the energy efficiency of central heating and simply involves removing any trapped air bubbles from the units.
Commenting on the news, Duncan Hayes, editor at Build It magazine, said: "From another level, partly [this trend is] just because [men] are used so much more to paying someone to do the job for them."
Along with bleeding the radiators, Britons can further boost the efficiency of the heating units by placing a reflective panel behind them to help prevent heat from being lost through windows or absorbed into walls.
