Footballer scores goal with solar panels

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has scooped an award thanks to his technology-packed home, which includes solar panels, it is reported.

According to the Sun, the Argentinean football star has bagged the What House? Awards' best luxury home prize for his £3.7 million property in Cheshire.

Along with renewable energy technology such as solar panels - which provide 75 per cent of the home's hot water - and a heat recovery system, there is also the traditional bling commonly associated with footballers.

The rented property also boasts Armani-inspired textured wall panels, a cinema room and underground swimming pool complete with sound system, the newspaper continues.

A Manchester City source told the news provider: "The players always try to outdo each other - but the ultimate is to have the best house."

They added that despite Tevez's home being a mansion, it is also environmentally-friendly.

Solar panels can give a green boost to central heating and it was announced in the pre-Budget report last week that households which direct any excess energy back to the National Grid will receive a tax-free amount of cash.
