Number of carbon monoxide fatalities 'falls'
The number of Britons dying as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning has fallen by over 50 per cent over the course of the last decade, it has been revealed.
According to the Corgi Trust's 12th annual benchmarking report, this is most likely because people are now more aware of the safety precautions which must be taken when having a new gas boiler or other gas appliance installed in the home or on a business premises, Plumbing Park reports.
This may include the fact that homeowners are now advised to have their gas fires and boilers serviced at least once a year and that the plumber they contact should be a member of the Gas Safe Register.
Such an engineer may also be able to offer consumers advice on the best new boiler to invest in, should they wish to reduce their energy bills - which could be a condensing boiler or biomass boiler.
Commenting on the news, Nigel Dumbrell, manager of the Corgi Trust, said: "The overall drop in fatalities is really positive news and illustrates how government regulation, awareness campaigns and the introduction of safer appliances in the home have made a difference over the past 12 years."
