Holiday resort 'plans to be zero-carbon'
A proposed holiday resort in Northumberland hopes to achieve zero-carbon status by using technology such as a biomass boiler, it is reported.
Waterfalls Country Estate is currently seeking planning permission for a site in Ridsdale and will ensure that renewable energy technology is at the heart of its building process.
Such appliances will include a biomass boiler, solar thermal water heating and rainwater harvesting, along with an efficient waste-disposal system.
The holiday park has been designed by entrepreneur Sherod Walker, working with GWK Architects in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The 18 luxury chalets, three cottages, restaurant and bar, pool, beauty spa and equestrian centre will be built from materials such as locally sourced timber, stone, slate and turf.
"I want to make Waterfalls Country Estate the best tourist destination in the north-east, combining luxury in a sustainably built environment," said Mr Walker.
A decision on planning permission is set to be reached next month.
Installing a biomass boiler can be a greener option as it fuel can be chosen from a sustainable source of timber, reducing the strain on fossil fuels.
