Looking after boilers 'could save money'
Britons who take care of their boilers could find that they are successfully able to slash their winter energy bills, it has been claimed.
Writing for consumer site Love Money, Alison Hunt asserts that if a boiler is over ten years old it is likely to be losing in the battle of energy efficiency, which may mean it is time to upgrade to a new
central heating appliance.
She added that unlike older
gas boilers which convert up to 60 per cent of their fuel into heat, modern condensing boilers are able to convert up to 90 per cent of their power - which could result in an annual saving of £250.
"But if replacing your boiler is out of the question make sure you get it serviced regularly, not only to ensure it is safe but also to spot any potentially expensive problems early," she adds.
Another boiler type which can be more energy efficient is the biomass boiler, which uses wood to fuel it, which can be purchased from a sustainable source, thereby reducing a property's reliance on finite resources.
