Condensing boilers 'a priority purchase'
Britons have been advised that replacing their old
gas boilers with a new condensing boiler should be a priority.
Lord Adair Turner, chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, has said: "After home insulation and more efficient boilers, we now need more intrusive things - double glazing, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation."
He also recommended that "one-stop shops" be introduced where people can have a full assessment of what work needs to be carried out in their homes in order to reduce their carbon footprints.
Commenting on the news, Gordon Miller, founder of whatgreenhome.com, said there were also plenty of steps people could take to boost their energy efficiency without spending any money.
These included turning down the thermostat on
central heating.
Once people began to save money through taking these steps, Mr Miller explained they should be encouraged to have a condensing boiler installed and consider microgeneration technologies, such as solar panels and ground or air source heat pumps.
