Can going green increase property value?
Reducing the running costs of a property may do more to increase its value than building an extension or spending time making garden improvements, it has been suggested.
An article for the Liverpool Echo states that this is because having lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint could see a property being awarded a higher rating on its Energy Performance Certificate.
These certificates are now included in Home Information Packs which are given to anyone interested in buying a house they have viewed.
"These days we're all looking for ways to make our cash go further, so, if you're a homeowner keen to make your house stand out in an ever-competitive sales market, it's vital to ensure your property has low running costs," the newspaper explains.
With this in mind, Britons may wish to invest in a condensing boiler to boost their
central heating, with the Energy Saving Trust stating that such an appliance could reduce energy bills by over £200 annually.
