Home automation 'could reduce bills by a third'
Britons who invest in energy automation technology for their homes could see their utility bills fall by around a third as they will have a better idea of where they can reduce their consumption, one sector commentator has claimed.
Plans are currently in place to install a smart meter in every UK home by 2020 to allow consumers to track their spending on each separate utility in real-time.
However, Adam Kent, managing director of Install Automation, suggested that rather than waiting, many people were investing in similar technology now.
"You could look at our meter, turn the lights on and immediately know how much it costs, and if you've used the meter for a while, you know how much your average usage is," he explained.
Mr Kent added that the technology could help people to drive down their costs by 30 or 40 per cent.
There are other ways that Britons can make an investment in order to reduce energy bills - including purchasing an energy-efficient condensing boiler.
Renewable energy, including solar panels and ground source heat pumps, can also lower annual utility bills.
