Consumers 'prefer to be environmentally-friendly'
The developers of an eco-housing project in Brighton recently stated that while people may be wary of being labelled "green", most people would prefer to live in an environmentally-friendly way.
Pooran Desai, founding director of Bioregional Quintain - the company behind the One Brighton development - told the Grand Designs Live show in Birmingham that the label "green" can be slightly off-putting for some consumers.
"Green can be a funny label but most of us would love to
lead a lifestyle that doesn't do damage to the environment," said Mr Desai.
A surevy conducted by the Energy Saving Trust from August 2008 found that over half of UK homeowners would be willing to pay more for an
eco-friendly home, while some 49 per cent claimed that estate agents did not put enough empha
sis on a property's green features.
Furthermore, over 60 per cent of respondents wanted to see more guidance from estate agents on the expected running costs of a house.
