Combined heat and power plant for housing scheme
A low carbon housing development in the centre of Peterborough is set to use a communal heating system.
The biomass combined heat and power plant will be used to provide heat for 344 new homes that are set to be built to BREEAM Excellent standard.
English Partnerships, the national regeneration agency, selected a consortium of housing developers called pPod to carry out the work.
"The Peterborough pPod homes not only respond to climate change, they will also be more spacious and have lower energy bills," said Steve Carr, director of policy at English Partnerships.
He added that the development is looking to make cost-efficient homes for a range of incomes.
Earlier in the year, boiler manufacturer
Baxi announced that it is set to launch a domestic micro combined heat and power unit on to the mass market at the start of next year.
The group's chief executive Martyn Coffey also called on the government to invest more in the technology.
