Yorkshire school to install renewables
A £32 million facelift for a North Yorkshire school is set to go ahead following a lengthy consultation on what technology it is to install.
The Richmond School was selected to benefit from the government's Building Schools for the Future initiative, however planning issues have seen the project delayed by 12 months, according to a Yorkshire Post report.
It is understood that ground source heat pumps were to be installed but were ditched in favour of a large biomass b
oiler to provide heating for school buildings and to ensure the green credentials of the project were kept intact.
The strategic planning manager for North Yorkshire county council's children and young people's service, Suzanne Firthwe, told the news provider: "We are confident of creating an
excellent school in
Richmond despite the setbacks."
Some 11 wind turbines were also to be installed, however this number is still under debate and it is thought may face being reduced.
