Heat pump method 'dramatically' cuts carbon footprint
US homeowners have praised the cost-cutting qualities of
eco-friendly heat pumps.
Residents of Prairie Village in Kansas told their local newspaper that the technology's environmental friendliness "seals the deal" alongside its energy savings.
Speaking to the Kansas City Star, Kristin Riott remarked: "The air from the new system is moister in the winter and drier in the summer, so it's more comfortable.
"Geothermal heat dramatically reduces your carbon footprint - plus, we expect our energy bills to be cut by two thirds."
Heating specialists explained that geothermal technology relies on a
heat pump that makes use of the constant temperature of the ground or water below the earth's surface.
Kristin Riott explained that her family had a 170-foot hole dug in their front garden to accommodate the new system, while they expect the money invested in the green measure to be returned in heating savings within ten years.
In addition to the
heat pump, the Riotts have purchased a tankless water heater a dual-flush
toilet, low-flow water taps and energy-saving light bulbs.
Observers have noted that rising energy bills are driving an increasing number of people to alternative heating systems.
