Titanic star splashes out on green toilet

A new eco-friendly toilet is among the green changes Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has made at his LA home.

The remote-controlled Toto Neorest 500 reportedly warms the seat before a user sits on it, while the lid automatically flips up as someone approaches it.

"Leo loves his new toilet – it's more like a toy since it has a remote control," a source told In Touch magazine.

According to the publication, the Titanic star splashed out $3,200 (£1,600) to have the planet-friendly flusher installed in his mansion.

In addition to its timer-cleaning mode, the model has a built-in deodoriser to eliminate any epic smells emitted by the thespian.

Leo's new toilet follows fellow Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt's festive appeal for the public to donate low-flush toilets to the residents of hurricane-hit New Orleans.

The male half of philanthropic phenomenon Brangelina offered his amateur architecture skills as well as his wallet to a campaign to rebuild the city's destroyed areas.

As well as their water-saving toilet feature, 150 new sustainable houses will have rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems and a back-up generator to provide power during storms.
