Blackpool toilet owners 'flushed with success'

Blackpool is home to some of the UK's best public toilets, it would appear.

Every one of the town's 21 entries to this year's Loo of the Year awards scooped a prize from the British Toilet Association.

One of the winners, a toilet for people with severe disabilities, was rewarded for its hoist and changing-bed features.

Holidaymakers' favourite haunt, the Big Blue Hotel at the Pleasure Beach, took the gong for top hotel toilet, while Poulton United Reformed Church was deemed to have the best sanitary facility at a place of worship.

Councillor Ian Fowler told local reporters that good quality toilet facilities are fundamental to the area's tourist industry.

"Millions of people head to Blackpool each year - we want to give them all the facilities they need for an enjoyable stay and make sure it is of a high standard so that they will be willing to come back," he remarked.

Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson added: "We are extremely proud to have been named the best hotel for toilets in the country.

"Our housekeeping team work very hard to ensure that the hotel always looks immaculate and are flushed with success over this award."
